The first Fly Fishing Guides' School in MexicoPesca Maya Guides learn to teach their apprenticesIt has become a tradition in Pesca Maya, that each year we take responsiblity to ensure our guides maintain the high standard that Pesca Maya guides have become famous for. Within our continuing education program, our friends David Ames, Vincent Grillo, Mark Daly and John Wilson, professional US fly fishing guides and instructors from Montana and Florida put together a great training course to teach Pesca Maya head guides to teach their skills to their apprentices. In Pesca Maya we are very proud of our continuous efforts in building the first Fly Fishing Guides' School in Mexico.
Besides the practical sessions on the water, Training included theory about how to deal with clients, how to work a flat and important safety issues. Learning to tie flies is a very important step in the process to become a good head guide.
Teaching to tie flies is a different history.
Emphasis was placed on communicative skills so the guides are better able to assist anglers of all abilities to improve their casting and fishing competency. Fly tying methods and techniques were taught so guides can imitate the natural bait that is found in Ascension Bay.
